In the current era being vegetarian is the best contribution we can ever make to this planet.
A purely vegetarian diet requires only 1,137 litres of water per day, while a meat-based diet requires more than 15,160 litres of water per day”. This is 13.3 times more resources.
According to the UN’s Food and Agricultural Organization, about 14% of all emissions come from meat and dairy production.
It is quite evident that stopping the consumption of meat products helps the planet.
On the other view, being a Vegetarian helps us to be a better person. What we eat is what we become.
The one of oldest living religions, Jainism, talks about three ways we commit violence against other beings.
They are as follows,
- Don’t harm others through thoughts, words & actions.
- Don’t instigate someone to harm others either through thoughts, words, and actions.
- Don’t support or approve of someone who is harming others through thoughts, words, and actions.
Jainism says, “Ahimsa Paramo Dharma. Meaning the most righteousness is practising non-violence.
Hence, following vegetarianism helps in multiple ways towards self, others and the planet.
